Background

ISI was formed in 1992 to provide expert-level and specialized security support services to government and commercial clients. ISI initially provided a series of security reviews and vulnerability assessments to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for both its headquarters operations and several field offices.

Since that time, ISI has expanded services from its initial concentration on IT security to include IT training development, Web development services, graphics design, multimedia development services and CD/DVD preparation and publication projects.

ISI has provided IT services to numerous government and commercial clients. These include Census Bureau, Department of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs Administration, Department of the Treasury, Department of Commerce, Patent and Trademark Office, Mirage Resorts International, Inc. (a Las Vegas, Nevada-based casino chain), Deale Area Historical Society, Bayside History Museum (in North Beach, MD), New Room Designs (a San Diego-based interior design firm), Elegant Inspirations (a hand-crafted jewelry storefront), the politcal candidacy of Jan Horton for Calvert County (MD) Commissioner, Mamma Lucia Italian Restaurant (in Calvert County, MD) among others.

ISI has a staff of analysts, graphic artists, programmers, and Internet design and development specialists who provide specialized support services as needed for individual project and task assignments.

Among highlights of ISI's support activities are:
  • Support for development of the Foreign Trade Statistics Security Guidelines for Federal Agencies handbook addressing security procedures required to access US Census Bureau foreign trade statistics.

  • Senior technical support services for US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) International Liaison Staff, and the Scientific and Technical Information Center (STIC). Corporate projects included support of international intellectual and industrial property initiatives and patent office harmonization efforts, automation planning for STIC, various USPTO security accreditation support projects such as USPTO's Internet access system, the Foreign Patent Access System (FPAS), and the Automated Biotechnology Sequence Search System.

  • Support for the establishment of a formal security program at the Department of Commerce's National Trade Data Bank Internet facility.

  • Development of a prototype automated patent application filing system involving emerging public key infrastructure (PKI) encryption technology and digital signature support. This effort demonstrated the feasibility of moving to an all-electronic filing and records management environment with built-in security protection and document authorship/ownership in the form of high-grade non-repudiation technology.
